The Original Blue
The Original Blue is the name for Delftware that is hand painted. These decorations have been used since the 17th century: Delft Blue and Polychrome. Delft Blue is by far the most famous.
Delft Blue is the name for earthenware with a blue decoration on a white background. The designs are inspired by the Chinese porcelain from the Ming and Kang Hsi dynasties. Typical Dutch land and seascapes start to appear from the beginning of the 17th century.
Polychrome is a multi-coloured decoration technique using the colours yellow, green, blue and red. This decoration technique was originally used in Mediterranean countries.
